The Role of Women in Promoting Peace and Democracy in the Middle East

Shirin Ebadi is a human rights activist and Iranian lawyer who was awarded the 2003 Nobel Peace prize.  In 1996, Ebadi was honored by Human Rights Watch as a leading human rights defender for her work in Iran.  She has written a number of academic books and articles on human rights.  In 2004, Time magazine named her as one of the year's top 100 most influential people.

At this free, public lecture, copies of Ebadi's new book, The Golden Cage:  Three Brothers, Three Choices, One Destiny will be for sale and available for signing.  The event is co-sponsored by the Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion, and Public Life and the Department of Political Science at UCSB
