UCSB Senior Awarded Public Service Grant from Strauss Foundation

Nanor Balabanian, a senior honors student in the political science department, has received a $10,000 public service scholarship from the Donald A. Strauss Foundation.  The Strauss grants fund public service projects to be carried out in the students’ senior year.

Students Gain Recognition and Support for "Fence Isla Vista Campaign"

A group of students in Professor Bimber’s PS 171 class are gaining attention through their Fence Isla Vista campaign.  The campaign, which began as a project for their class, has extended beyond the classroom.  Professor Bimber issued an assignment for his students to create a social media campaign around a topic of interest.  Six of the students gathered together and decided to focus on an issue that was important to them.  Inspired by two recent deaths from cliff falls, the students focused on increasing fence safety along the cliffs in Isla Vista to prevent future cli
