General Malik was Chief of the Indian Army from 1997-2000.  In a distinguished military career spanning more than 40 years, he was involved in planning and executing some of Indian's most prominent military operations.  He brings this perspective to his analysis of the major security challenges facing India today.

General Malik has authored Kargil: From Surprise to Victory and has edited two additional books.  He has also authored chapters and articles on various international security issues.

This lecture is a co-sponsored presentation of the Department of Political Science, the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies, and the Center for Cold War Studies and International History at UCSB.
