Job Opening in Environmental Politics

The Department of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications and nominations for a tenured appointment to fill the recently-endowed Anton Vonk Chair in Environmental Politics. This Chair is intended to focus on the politics of the environment, energy, or natural resources. The position is open with respect to field. We welcome applicants from American politics, comparative politics, international politics, and political theory.

Candidates should be distinguished scholars, whose work focuses especially on the politics of the environment. The appointment may be at the senior Associate Professor or Full Professor Rank. Candidates must have a substantial reputation for excellence in innovative scholarly research, teaching, and service. A Ph.D. or equivalent is required. The successful candidate will assume a leading role in developing the study of environmental politics in the department, and will have many opportunities to assume a leading role in university-wide programs. The position is authorized effective July 1, 2014.

The environmental focus reflects a core interest of the Department and a major interdisciplinary emphasis across the UCSB campus. In addition to having a distinguished scholarly record, it is desirable that candidates for the Vonk Chair be qualified for an affiliated (i.e., courtesy) appointment in the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UCSB. The Chair brings with it a substantial stipend to be used at the discretion of the Chair-holder in furthering the Chair’s program of research, teaching, and service.
